Laurence Garnesson was born in 1967 and grew up in Hauts-de-France. She lives and works in Paris.
She has a double degree in Plastic and Applied Arts. After training at the Duperré school and the ENS (Art and Design department), she worked at the Centre de Recherche en Arts Plastiques (CERAP) at Paris I-Panthéon Sorbonne.
At the same time, Henri Cueco welcomed her into his studio at the Beaux-arts de Paris, where he gave her the interest in drawing and a sharp eye. From then on, the artist never ceased to bring together the richness of her training in multiple projects and collaborations.
After numerous solo and group exhibitions, in 2014 the Institut Français de Tokyo invited her to take part in ÂMES EN RÉSONANCE, a dialogue between French and Japanese artists. In 2015, the European Commission in Brussels dedicated her a solo show, LE TRAIT À L'OEUVRE . Since then, her work has been exhibited at international fairs (South Korea, Germany, and Sweden). Laureate of the Charles Oulmont Foundation in 2015, an award presented by Maria Lund, her works are part of numerous collections including Crédit Agricole Hauts de France, the Gautier collection, the Tiffon collection and the Bi Sun Jae collection (South Korea).
Since 2017, she has been working on prints in residence at Editions Bucciali. In 2019, Laurence Garnesson explored the artistic porosities between instant musical writing and contemporary dance in performances with the multipoint.s collective at 109 - L'entre-pont in Nice.
Since that same year, she has been reflecting on the issues involved in her research with Elora Weill-Engerer (critic, member of AICA, curator and art historian), who wrote a critical text for her in 2020, Point sensible, published on BoumBang!
Laurence Garnesson has been exploring the correlations between drawing and volume through research in ceramics from les Ateliers Poush Manifesto (Aubervilliers, France) which she joined in 2022. She is preparing a series of works to be presented at Aponia, Lieu d'Art Contemporain (France) in June 2023.
Laurence Garnesson co-founds the Cinéma d'animation department at the École Estienne in Paris. She has run numerous workshops with L'Odéon-Théâtre de L'Europe and RMN-Grand Palais. In 2019, she co-produced a series of video-poems, short, animated films with La Factorie, Maison de poésie de Normandie. She is currently working with the Lilian Thuram Foundation on an animated documentary film project on the theme of everyday discrimination (Les petites phrases qui blessent), a theme particularly close to her heart.
