Jessica Ozlo started working with textiles during her first degree in Fashion Design in Barcelona, where she was born. After finishing her degree, she moved to London where she completed her Master of Arts in Costume Design following her artistic drive and love for textiles. She also spend several years working in the film and theatre industry.
Later on, after having settled in the English countryside, she decided to create again with her hands. Her art practice originated when she started to use traditional crafts to slow down her process and connect with the history of the handmade and female heritage.
She finds beauty in simplicity and imperfection. The geometrical shapes and patterns emerged in the search for this simplicity and in need of structure as a catalyst. She is drawn to imperfection since the first moment she chooses the materials. That is why natural raw fibres with their subtle variations and organic quality will be the inspiration for the work while it is taking shape. She allows the imperfections that occur during the process to be present and define the work.
In essence she is trying to make sense of the chaos embracing the complexity and richness that we find in the natural world.
