Joan Saló's working method has always had a strong meditative component. The Catalan artist always starts from minimal gestures which, as if configuring a new alphabet, propose an abstract reading of reality. The resulting works are reminiscent of cave paintings, shadows of unknown objects, phantasmagoria of light or representations of the world of dreams.
Saló's paintings reconcile abstraction with figuration, the conscious with the unconscious, obsession with spirituality. The findings and accidents of acrylic on canvas establish a network of meanings developed from primary forms that repeat themselves without beginning or end. They are works that speak to us of time and capture it, that make visible the rhythm of the pictorial process - the relationship between the brain and the hand - to create a mental and sensorial map, a code, a plastic translation of the language of the ineffable.
