The world I see – like the world of warp and weft – has rules and constraints that are supposed to be good for us, but disorder happens naturally, and the other side of tension is fluidity. I love a chaotic moment amid stillness. As much as Ineed tocalculate, I welcome the unforeseen, the accidental and spontaneous.
It is not a conscious decision to create something sculptural or painterly, but more of a natural result.I dye and mixmaterials, colors and textures to create a palette, contrasting and unifying elements. By nature, I seek to break free from a two-dimensional world and repetition of small patterns or traditions. I change and adjust as I weave. If I am stuck, I try to think of all the possibilities. At some point, I’ll see a passage that may or may not lead me somewhere. Each step is an opportunity to decide where to go next.
For me, art is so much about observation, about slowing down and paying attention. The process makes me slow down, observe things from various vantage points and angles, and break free from rigid conventions, too. I try to eliminate anything that is not essential. I believe that the work should have a soul and not simply show off a certain technique. I want to express something present, what I feel now.
