Indian architect Bijoy Jain, founder of Studio Mumbai, is showcased by Fondation Cartier through a captivating exhibition titled "The Breath of the Architect," running from December 9, 2023, to April 21, 2024. Jain offers visitors a unique sensory experience, inviting them to immerse themselves in his poetic universe intertwining material, nature, and humanity.
The exhibition provides an enchanting journey, conducive to reverie, leisurely walks, and contemplation. Bijoy Jain seeks to freeze time during the visit, providing a moment of tranquility immersed in nature. Through skillful use of materials and forms, the architect aims to create unique spaces that establish a connection between humans, nature, and their emotions.
The works of ceramicist Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye add a touch of sensitivity and beauty to the installation, drawing inspiration from plants and external movements (particularly shadows).
This exhibition thus seeks to capture, even if fleetingly, the sensoriality emanating from architecture, the intuitive force that connects us to the elements, and our emotional relationship with space. Using materials such as wood, brick, earth, stone, and water, and entirely handcrafted, the installation comprises fragments of architectures, also involving the participation of Chinese painter Hu Liu.
