Amelie Maison d'Art sets up in New York
Amélie du Chalard, founder of Amélie Maison d'Art at the end of 2015 in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, has just opened her gallery in the heart of SoHo, right across from the Judd Foundation, precisely at 85-87 Mercer St. "My concept is to open small spaces but in rather exceptional locations, and New York, for the contemporary art market, is a virtually essential place." This is not a traditional gallery but rather an exhibition space akin to a collector's home, designed like an apartment, in a former artist's studio of 600m2 where you can discover various artists, different mediums, and multiple techniques that highlight the DNA of the gallery. You will also have the opportunity to be received by appointment after selecting on their website the works that resonate with you.
Discovering Artists
We are charmed by the layout of the gallery, its aesthetics, the very visible attraction to material, abstraction. It is not at all intimidating, as it sometimes happens in galleries, one feels good there, it is inspiring, harmonious, one would even like to live there. We also appreciate that the numerous selected artists are emerging – not just established artists.
A collective exhibition will last for about two months to allow for the discovery of the diversity of artists selected by Amélie Maison d'Art, their know-how, the aesthetics of their works. "What matters to me is to rediscover the primary and historical function of the artwork, which is to be a piece for oneself and for one's home."
Then a program of 5 temporary exhibitions will follow throughout the year, during which the gallery will be open for solo or duo shows for a month each, punctuated by personalized hangings. It is advisable, outside of these shows, to make an appointment on the website.
