Bill Cahan vit et travaille à San Fransisco. De son passé d'architecte est né il y a longtemps un réel intérêt pour la composition de l'espace, pour l'étude de la lumière, le rapport aux couleurs, aux émotions. Sa peinture abstraite et géométrique s'inspire des paysages de sa région qu'il ré-interprète avec une grande douceur. Sa palette de couleurs est reconnaissable et s'encre dans des camaïeux de bleus qui nous font voyager, sur l'eau.
Bill a fondé l'un des cabinets de design les plus originaux, influents et reconnu au monde, Cahan & Associates.
Son travail a été récompensé par plus de 2 800 prix d'excellence et figure dans les collections permanentes du Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, du Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, de la Bibliothèque du Congrès, du Museum Fur Kunst Und Gewerbe et du SFMOMA, qui a présenté son travail dans le cadre d'une exposition spéciale.
